Sources and figures.

Every number on this site, where it comes from, and whether it is public data, manufacturer data or Pinion's own modelling. Figures marked as Pinion figures are indicative; each proposal is modelled on the site's actual load and shows its workings.

Prices and statistics checked October 2026Public sources link to the original publication
[1] 22–30p per kWh, grid electricity Public data

DESNZ, Quarterly Energy Prices, September 2025 (Q2 2025 data). Average non-domestic electricity price 23.8p/kWh including CCL, down 7% on the year; the very small consumption band rose 25%. The manufacturing-industry average, excluding CCL, was 17.08p/kWh. Pinion quotes 22–30p as the all-in range on standard SME fixed contracts; large negotiated contracts land at 18–24p.

[2] ~10p per kWh generated on site Pinion figure

Pinion Energy modelling: all-in cost of a kWh from an X-Series unit including fuel and maintenance, using the manufacturing platform's published performance and non-domestic gas at 4.93p/kWh including CCL (DESNZ, Q2 2025). Site-specific; every proposal shows its own workings.

[3] 90%+ total fuel efficiency; 40% electricity, 51% heat, 9% losses Public data + manufacturer data

GOV.UK, Combined heat and power guidance: "CHP typically has an efficiency of over 80%" and "operators typically saving around 20% on energy bills". The 40 / 51 / 9 split is the published performance of the engine platform the X-Series is built on (MAN E3262, Jenbacher J312, MWM TCG 3016 class), at full load with heat recovery.

[4] ~50% grid generation efficiency Public data

DESNZ, Digest of UK Energy Statistics (DUKES) 2024: combined cycle gas turbine stations ran at a thermal efficiency of almost 50% in 2023, before transmission and distribution losses.

[5] Years typical wait for a new high-demand grid connection Public data

NESO, Connections Reform (approved by Ofgem, April 2025): the GB connection queue stood at more than 750GW, with some projects holding connection dates up to 15 years away. The reform prioritises ready projects but new offers are only now being reissued.

[6] 6 months from order to switch-on Pinion figure

Pinion Energy delivery programme: design, consents, gas works, build, full-load test and commissioning. Indicative; the deployments page shows a 2MW array delivered in sixteen weeks.

[7] 12–18 months typical payback on a purchased system Pinion figure

Pinion Energy modelling at the prices in [1] and [2], for sites that use the recovered heat. Payback depends on load profile, running hours and gas price; it is calculated for each site in the proposal.

[8] 30–50% CO₂ reduction against grid supply Public data + Pinion figure

GOV.UK, Combined heat and power guidance: "operators can save up to 30% on carbon emissions" against separate grid electricity and boiler heat. The upper end of Pinion's range is modelled for sites where recovered heat displaces electric heating or older plant.

[9] £0 to switch to biomethane Manufacturer data

The engine platform is specified for natural gas and biomethane to gas-grid quality without hardware changes; hydrogen blending is on the manufacturer's roadmap. Biomethane itself costs more than natural gas, which is why the switch is left to the client.

[10] 4°C · ~95% · 0 kW absorption chilling figures Public data + Pinion figure

US Department of Energy, CHP Technology Fact Sheet: Absorption Chillers (2017): single-effect lithium-bromide chillers driven by hot water typically deliver chilled water at 6 to 12°C; lower temperatures, including sub-zero, use ammonia-water units; electrical demand is limited to pumps rather than a compressor. The ~95% figure is Pinion modelling of total fuel use on sites that take power, heat and cooling together.

[11] Case figures deployments page Project records

Outputs, delivery times, savings and paybacks on the deployments page are as recorded on each project by the manufacturing platform the X-Series is built on. They are not Pinion fleet statistics and are presented as examples of the technology in service.

CCL is the Climate Change Levy. Non-domestic price averages are weighted across all consumption bands; small consumers pay above the average and large consumers below it. If you would like the modelling behind any Pinion figure for your own site, ask an engineer.
