Absorption Chillers & CHP Cooling | Pinion Energy Systems
Cooling · Absorption chillers

CHP with absorption chilling. Your waste heat, turned into cooling.

An absorption chiller takes the heat a Pinion CHP unit produces while it generates electricity, or waste heat from your own processes, and turns it into chilled water. Operating costs and CO₂ come down a second time.

4°C

chilled water from engine heat, with sub-zero temperatures possible on the right system.

~95%

total system efficiency on sites that use power, heat and cooling together.

0 kW

of extra electrical load to drive the chilling cycle. Heat does the work, not a compressor.

How absorption chilling works

From engine heat to chilled water, in four stages.

Trigeneration

One gas supply. Electricity, heat and cooling.

A standard CHP unit already turns around 40% of its fuel into electricity and recovers 51% as heat. Add an absorption chiller and whatever heat your site can't use in summer becomes chilled water instead of being dumped. The plant earns its keep all year, not just in the heating season.

Illustrative split. The heat-to-cooling balance is set by your site's load.

Where it's used

Industrial cooling for sites that can't afford temperature drift.

Data centre cooling

Your waste heat, cooling your racks.

Data centres spend a fortune moving heat. A Pinion trigeneration array turns its own exhaust heat into chilled water through absorption chillers, cutting the electrical load of your cooling plant and lifting total system efficiency towards 95%. The engine that powers your servers also cools them.

Retrofit or new build

Our engineers design absorption chilling into existing factories and new builds, sized around the cooling your process actually needs.

We start the same way as every project: a site survey that meters your power, heat and cooling loads together. If chilling doesn't improve your economics, the proposal will say so. See the X-Series range and the carbon case.
